Services for Jay Lee Tarver,90, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 12:00 noon in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Mortuary. Mr. Jay Lee Tarver, "Hammer" grew up in the big city of Sweet Union Texas, in a loving home, along with his parents Mr. JC Tarver, and Mrs. Aline Thompson Tarver. Jay Lee has 9 siblings. Jay attended George Washington Carver High School in his hometown Sweet Union Texas. Upon graduation, Mr. Tarver attended Butler College in Tyler, Texas. After 2 years of college, Jay made one of the most important decisions of his life. The love for his country, and his bravery led him to enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War. During his 8 years of service, Jay was blessed to travel the world, and have wonderful life long memories. Jay traveled to Japan, Italy and Guam, to name a few. After his honorable discharge , he returned to Houston Texas. Jay later made Lufkin, Texas his home. Jay Lee Tarver Sr. was happily married to Mrs. Margie Nell Brown Tarver (preceded In death) his wife for 25 wonderful blessed years. Mr. Tarver attended Abundant Life United Methodist Church in Lufkin Texas. When he became unable to attend, Jay hosted Thursday evening Bible Study in his home, led by Mr. Ray Boston . Bible Study group met religiously up until a few months of his demise. Mr. Tarver is the proud father of his name sake Jay Lee Tarver Jr., Emma Sparks, and Sabina Minor. Jay loved spending time with his family, watching spots, and of course his favorite game show " Wheel of Fortune." There was hardly a time Jay (Papa) didn't have a "New" joke to tell. Family loved hearing them "Over and Over." (LOL) Mr.Tarver retired from Lufkin Industries after 40 years of employment. He also retired from Jewel Hugging Machinery. On October 4th 2018, Jay Lee Tarver Sr. answered his cati to return home to his Heavenly Father. Jay will be greatly missed on this side of Glory until we met again.
