Jennies was the youngest of twelve children born to this union. Jennies was lovingly known to his friends by several nicknames such as "T, Mr. Tee, and Godfather". Jennies had a huge heart and if he had it to give then it was yours. He also loved to cook and in fact, on any given early morning you could find him shopping at Wal-Mart, HEB, or Brookshires. When Jennies was in good health, everyone knew you could always come by for a good home cooked meal. Going to the grocery store was one of his favorite past-times and this is where he would socialize and strike up conversations with just about anyone, as he didn't meet any strangers. Jennies had a particular gift of making you think he knew something about every subject or as some would say today "fake it until you make it". Jennies was also a snazzy dresser and he loved to look good and smell good. He particularly had a love of hats and caps, especially his Kangols. As an adolescent Jennies attended HG Temple where he graduated and later went on to attend Mary Allen College in Crockett, Tx. After college, he moved to Los Angeles, Ca for a short time and later moved back to Texas to help care for his parents. Later in life, he was employed by Temple Inland where he retired after 35 years of service. Jennies also was self employed for a short period of time owning his own janitorial service. Jennies accepted Christ at an early age and attended The Church of God in Diboll, Tx, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Jennies was preceded in death by his parents Ezekiel and Willie Mathies. Brothers: Ezekiel Jr, John, Aaron, Ernest, and Baby Mathies. Sisters: Hattie Williams, Addie Bell Brewton, and Ollie Mathies. Jennies is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years Gertie Mathies of Lufkin, Tx; Siblings: Naomi Pruitt, Richmond, CA, Louginia Henson, Houston, Tx, and Herman Mathies, Los Angeles, Ca. Children: Phyllis(Edmond) Boxie and Larry (Judy) Miller all of Missouri City, Tx; Johnny(Natalie) Lewis, Grayson, Ok; Debra Miller, Pam(Scott) McCartney, and of course his favorite original babycakes Peggie Lewis all of Houston, Tx. Grand-daughters otherwise known as babycakes to him are Shamina Simmons, Natasha and Erica Miller, Ronnada Hicks, Chelsea Foster all of Houston, Tx and Marian Lewis, Grayson, Ok. Grandsons: Adam Sellers, Houston, Tx and Jordan Lewis, Diboll, Tx and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and special adopted daughter Maria Rodricks, Fresno, Tx along with special friends, Marcellus Jones, Mable Johnson, David Johnson, Ester Hunt, Beverly Quinney, Billy Kimble, and Katie Shepherd.
