Funeral services for Shern Hall, 66, of Lufkin will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021, in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sweet Union Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mrs. Hall was born on June 19, 1954, in Nacogdoches, died on Sunday, June 6, 2021, in Tyler. Shern Laverne Hall was born on June 19, 1954, in Sweet Union, Texas to the late Reverend Newt Hughes and Leona Forney Hughes. She lived most of her life in Lufkin, Texas and was a lifetime member of Sweet Union Baptist Church. She graduated from Wells High School where she was a member of the Girls Basketball State Champions team. Shern married early in life and was the proud mother of one daughter. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, and fishing. She was loved and respected for her devotion to family and service to others. Prior to launching her own business, Shern held a number of interesting jobs including seamstress for a clothing manufacturer, forklift driver, and formal wear store manager. For nearly 30 years, she faithfully managed her own business, Alterations, Etc. by Shem, and was known for being the best seamstress in town. Shern devoted her life to serving her family and her community with great food, kindness, and exceptional generosity. She appreciated the simple blessings in life like time spent with family and cherished friends. She served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by feeding, sheltering, clothing, and loving those in need. She went home to glory on June 6, 2021 in Tyler Texas. Shern is survived by her daughter, Lisa White of Houston, TX; her sisters Annie Lois Lee of Chicago, IL, and Sheila Hughes of Austin, TX, ; brothers Larry Hughes of Nacogdoches, TX, Carl Ray Hughes (Pattie) of Amarillo, TX, Roosevelt Hughes (Diane) of Houston, TX, and Bernard Hughes of Sweet Union, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents, the Reverend Newt Hughes and Leona Forney Hughes; sisters Lou Evelyn Haywood, Denise Hodge, and Carolyn Henry; brother Eugene Hughes; and nephew Milton L. Joyce.
