The funeral service for Alvin Erwin, 79 of Lufkin, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 16, 2025, in the New Center Prospect Baptist Church, 534 New Center Prospect Cemetery Rd., Pollok, TX. Burial will follow in New Center Prospect Cemetery in Pollok.
Alvin Travis Erwin was born in Pollok, Texas to Myrtle & Eli Erwin, Sr., on December 26, 1945.
Alvin, more commonly known as Teddy Boy, accepted Christ at an early age and grew up attending church and singing in the choir at New Center Prospect Missionary Baptist Church.
Teddy Boy was the apple of his mother's eye and grew up wearing overalls and chewing Days Work tobacco throughout his lifetime. He was the baby boy and very loved and spoiled by his siblings. He loved animals of all kinds, especially his precious dogs. He was always well versed in current events, an avid reader, and could work any crossword puzzle that you put in front of him. You couldn't meet a more laid back, jovial, highly intelligent man !
Teddy Boy attended school in Pollok and Lufkin, graduating from Dunbar High School in 1964.
He operated a skidder for many years until he was injured. He then became caretaker of his mom and daughters, and later went on to retire from Lufkin Industries. Teddy was an avid storyteller with an impeccable memory and loved to reminisce about the past with family and friends.
He married Donna (Stephens) Erwin on July 19, 1984 and from this union, they had 2 daughters LaDonna
Jo, and Emily Marie, and he gained a bonus son Bobby Paul Stephens. He was the best Granddaddy to Rylee, Ryann, Aria, Elisha, Emaree, Levi, Janessa, and Deona, and PawPaw Teddy to Cameron, Tristan, and Landon. He will truly be missed!
Teddy Boy passed on to glory in Lufkin, Texas after a long, hard fight over the past five years with his girls at his bedside.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and Eli Erwin Sr., siblings James Centers, Bernice "Tettie" Reagan, Emily "Ree" McElwee, Eli Erwin Jr. , Maurine Smith, George "Pete" Erwin, Onetta Askew, Roy Erwin, and loving wife Donna Kay Erwin.
Left to cherish his memories: daughter LaDonna Erwin-Brooks of Wells daughter Emily Rogers (James) of
Pollok, son Bobby Stephens of Jermyn, TX, sister Dr. Gladys Jones (Donald) of Chicago, brother Dr. Tommy Erwin of Houston. Uncle Teddy Boy will forever hold a special place in the hearts of his nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. His love and laughter will live on forever. Rest easy, Mr. Teddy until we meet again.
