Barbara Mitchell's Obituary
Funeral service for Barbara Mitchell, 82, of Lufkin, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2021, in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held before service time. Burial will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Mitchell was born on August 14, 1939, and died Tuesday, January 5, 2021, in Houston.
Barbara Gilder Mitchell, was born on August 14, 1939 in Lufkin, Texas, to the parentage of the late Reverend Leroy Dan Teal and Lillie Mae Jones.
She was a beautiful person that was well known for her faithfulness to God, having received Jesus Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Corrigan, Texas. Her willingness to serve her Community and the special way she opened her heart, arms; and home to anyone in need. She was a Homemaker and she had a passion for preparing daily feasts and caring for the elderly and children. Barbara was also a member of the Eastern Star Lodge, and attended the Lufkin Public Schools. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Her children, James Gilder, Jr., Michael Gilder (Cori), Alicia Gilder-Dean (Jasmyn) and Cedric Gilder (Tammy); Grandchildren, Chris, Keith, Dense, Xavier, Jerome, Jamion, Linda, Randy; Michael, Cameron, Remington, Carson, Jemesha, Chanti, Blake, Daryl, Brittany, Brendon and Javen; Fourteen Great-granchildren and ten greatgreat-grandchildren. A special friend, Juanita Haynes.
Barbara is preceded in death by: her parents, Reverend Leroy Dan Teal and Lillie Mae Jones; Husband, L.J. Mitchell, Ex-husband, J.D. Gilder; Children, Algora Allen, Alfred Ray Gilder and Daryl Gilder; Siblings, Atleas Davis, Zenova Scott, Bonnie Teal-Mask and Jake Taylor; A wealth of other extended family and friends.
