Bennie Ruth Douglas' Obituary
Services for Bennie Douglas, 90, will be held Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1309 Colita Ave., Livingston, TX. with Rev. Kenneth Darden, Pastor. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery in Livingston.
Bennie Ruth Douglas was born June 26, 1925 in Livingston, TX. the first born of foyr children to the late Archie and Carrie Gordon. She graduated with honors from Dunbar High School in Livingston, TX. and was inducted into the Livingston High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2000. She retired from First National Bank of Livingston. She gave her life to Christ and joined with St. Luke United Methodist Church in Livingston, TX. where she served as pianist, choir director, Sunday school teacher and worked faithfully in various church ministries.
She leaves to mourn her passing four sons: James (Bennie Ruth) Jackson Douglas of Houston, TX. ,Johnny (Mary) Gordon, Michael (Carolyn) Gordon of Livingston, TX. and Joe (Yevette) Douglas of Lufkin, TX., six daughters: Carolyn Westbrooks, and Edna Jean of Houston, TX. Ava Calvin of Groveton, TX., Joan (Earl) Price of Nacogdoches, TX., Myra Garrett of Pflugerville, TX. and amy (Eric) Stewart of Austin, TX. A host of grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.
Special uncle: Herman "Uncle Buddy" Caleb, a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Special friends: Frankie White, Altharine Wallace, Lorine Jackson, Gracie Lee Darden and Maggie Eleby.
