Calvin Fry's Obituary
Service for Calvin Fry, 57, of Lufkin is scheduled for 12 noon., Saturday, February 19, 2022, in the First Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery.in Nacogdoches, TX. Visitation is Friday from 7:00 till 9:00 p.m. at Colonial Mortuary. Mr. Fry was born on July 29, 1964, in Greensville, Tx, and died on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, in Houston.
Calvin Fry was the seventh child of Luther Jarvis Fry and Stella Mae (Pocks) Fry on July 29, 1964, in Greenville, Texas. Calvin joined the Gilead Baptist Church at an early age where he was active in BTU and Sunday School. Calvin attended school in Lone Oak Texas, where he enjoyed basketball, football and track, and field.
After he graduated in 1982, he moved to Dallas to work with his older at the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. Later joined his sister in Lufkin and worked at Lufkin Industries for a brief period. He united with First Missionary Baptist Church where he met and later married his loving wife of 30 years, Janet. Together they had two beautiful daughters, Jessica and Felicia.
Calvin also opened and operated his own diner in downtown Lufkin called "The Missing Link, where he had a signature burger — "The Calvin Burger'.
Calvin went back to school acquiring his licensing in aviation maintenance mechanics but found that was not his passion. He landed a position with Lufkin High School in the maintenance department, and from there he received his certification to teach. While as the Building and Trades instructor for LISD, Calvin also received his licensing as a building contractor. He was employed at Lufkin High School for 30 years where he directed several of his students in the Skills USA Building competition and won numerous awards.
Calvin enjoyed cooking and growing his own vegetables singing and telling jokes and bringing laughter to anyone who would listen, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Stella Fry. Brothers, James Fry, Jarvis Fry, Jerry Fry, and Sister Katie Givens.
Survivors include his wife, Janet (Booker) Fry, daughters, Jessica Bennett (Garrett), and Felicia
Fry's Granddaughter, Journee Bennett. also leaves to cherish his memories of sisters, Helen Jackson and Marilyn Kegler (Larry); and a wealth of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and coworkers.
