Mr. Carl ( Tussy ) Lewis , 70 of Lufkin is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, November 25, 2023, Church By Jesus Christ, 1705 Sayers Street, in Lufkin. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Gardens. Mr. Lewis was born on April 17, 1953, of Lufkin , and died on Saturday, November 18, 2023 in Lufkin.
Carl Edward "Tussy" Lewis was born on April 17, 1953, in Lufkin, Texas to John and Mittie Lewis. Carl graduated from Lufkin High School where he participated in their baseball program. He pursued further education at Angelina College where he obtained his electrical certification. He held a position with Texas Foundries for over 20 years. He retired from CHI where he was employed as a security guard, making friends all over the hospital. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved to sit around telling jokes. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.
Anyone who knew Carl knew he enjoyed all kinds of sports and his love for TikTok grew as he would sit for hours laughing and watching videos. His daily visits to Dollar General, Family Dollar, and H-E-B became a family joke. He made friends everywhere he went.
On November 18, 2023, Carl "Tussy " Lewis departed this life at his home in
Lufkin, Texas. He left to cherish his memories: his wife, Verna Lee Lewis of
Lufkin, Texas; his only son, Carlos Hayter; and four daughters, Tiffanie Hayter, Shalonda Johnson (Christhober), Valeria Hayter, and Don Tressie Johnson (Inger); Grandchildren, Cedvion Harris, Justice Hayter, Amya Chatman, Kaitlin White, Makayla White, Alayla Richard, Zanthony Hayter and Zoaricque Hayter; Great-grandchildren, Baileigh Hunt, and Chase Cluff; Brother, Ralph Lewis (Diedra), and Lester Price; Sisters, June Lewis, Carol Lewis, and Gladys Lewis; Brother-in-law, Sylvester Nichols, Sister-in law, Sandra Nichols; and Special Friend, Dexter (Treena) Wright; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends he loved dearly.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents: John and Mittie Lewis; brothers, Joe Mack Lewis and Robert Earl Lewis; granddaughter, Shaikela
Yarbrough; nephews, Elroderick Tyrone Lewis and Marcus Jabbar Nichols.
