Carolyn Jean Horace's Obituary
Service for Carolyn Horace, 78 of Lufkin will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1519 Williams Street, Lufkin . Burial will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan.
Mrs. Horace was born March 26, 1945, in Nacogdoches, Texas and died on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, in Lufkin .
On March 26, 1945, Carolyn Jean Scott-Horace. was born to the parentage of Curley and Tommie J. Scott in Nacogdoches, Texas.
After th age of2 years old, Carolyn ' s mother met Mr. Luther White, Jr.; Upon marriage, they moved to Corrigan, Texas where she attended Wayne Wright Johnson School. Upon giving her life to Christ, she attended the Pine Hill Baptist Church in Corrigan, Texas. Later she relocated to Bakersfield, California with her parents, Reverend Curley and Elsie Scott. After graduating from Bakdersfield High School, she furthered her education at Marinello Beauty School. After returning to Texas, she had been employed at Temple Inland in Diboll, Texas for 17 years.
Carolyn soon met and married Jim H, Horace, Sr. and to this union 2 children were born, Mary Ann and Jim A. Horace Jr., affectionately called J.J. Carolyn became a member of the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She retired from Parkwood Nursing Facility after 33 years of employment though she continued to work. She loved going to church and being a part of the Missions Sisters and singing with the choir. She was an avid cook and was known for her "Tea Cakes." Carolyn was called "Big Momma in the neighborhood. She will be greatly missed by her family and dear friends.

Horace; Great-grandchildren, Ja'Lah Johnson, Lyric Horace, Beighlor Horace; Godchildrfen, Eric Figgs and Chris Swint; A wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins„ and friends. Special friends, Emma Coleman, Sarah Reggie, Mission Sisters and the Tinkle Family.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Jim A. Horace Sr.; Parents, Curley and Elise, Tommie and Luther White, Sr.; A sister, Freda Foreman; 4 brothers, Melvin White, Harfland White, Luther White and Doyle Scott; A son, Donnis Davis.
