Charlene Burley's Obituary
Services for Charlene Burley, 90, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Burley was born on February 11, 2026 in San Augustine, Texas, and died Wednesday, February 11, 2026 in Lufkin, Texas.
She received her education in Lufkin,Texas, from Carver Elementary to Dunbar High School. She also received her post-secondary education from Angelina College prior to relocating to San Diego, California, where she was employed in Social Services, with the Neighborhood House Association, also as a Nutritional Inspector for Home Based Elderly, and a Nutritional Inspector for Head Start of San Diego County.
Charlene accepted Christ at an early age as a member of the Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her signigficant other, Walter Ellis, Sr.; her father, Charlie Garrett; mother, Ar Sis. Ann Garrett; her sister, O'Linda Faye Garrett-Hartsfield (Lewis Hartsfield); her brother, Cleo Garrett (the late Delois Garrett); her brother, Whittaker Garrett (Alice M. Garrett); her daughter, Ira Louise Bailey James, and her great-grandson, Christopher O'Keith James.
Survivors: her daughter, Alice Marie Garrett Winston (Ivan Padgett); Son, Donnie Richard Bailey (Ella Bailey); sisters, Priscilla Garrett Brow (the late Rev. Earnest Whitt Brown, Sr.); Gladys Garrett Lindsey (Wilbert James Teal) and brother, Charles Garrett (Julie Garrett); Grandchildren, Bridgette Bailey (Cicely Joulevette), Aundrea James Lydia, Crystal James Robbins, and LaQuisha Bailey; Great-grandchildren, Kayla Robbins, Kendra Robbins, Kourtney Robbins, Laila Outlaw, De' Terrienne James, Brittany Session, Demi and Donovan; A host of cousins and friends.
