Doris Jean McVey's Obituary
The funeral service for Doris McVey, 75, will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Colonial Mortuary Chapel, 1600 Sayer St, Lufkin, Texas ,visitation for Ms. McVey will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Colonial Mortuary Chapel, 1600 Sayers Street, Lufkin, Texas from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. Ms. McVey died Tuesday, March 18, 2025, in Austin, TX.
Doris Jean Mcvey was a woman of unwavering principles and strong resolve. she left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privledge of knowing her. Born on October 5, 1949, she was the 3rd of three children born to the late Vance Mcvey and Evarine Mcvey page in Lufkin, Tx.
She attended Dunbar high school until 1968 where she graduated with her high school diploma. Doris was one of the first African American women to graduate from the nursing program at Angelina college IN 1970. DORIS decatied 32 years of nursing in the workforce from Woodland Heights medical center until she retired in 2003.
She accepted Christ at a young age and was a memeber at Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A.D. Thomas. she participated in the choir, food ministry, youth and would be wherever she was needed for many years.
On March 18, 2025, Doris's earthly journey reached its conclusion in Austin, Tx, left TO CHERISH HER MEMORY: Daughter: Yvette Mcvey. son: Marvin Garrett. granddaughter: Amya Mcvey. sister: Windfer Jean Mcvey- Holman and a wealth of family and friends.
Preceded in death by:her parents Vance Mcvey and Evarine Mcvey Page. her brothers: George and Acie MCVEY. Sister Ellen.
