Services for Ernestine Powell Harris, 75, of Lufkin will be held Saturday
June 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 208 Calvary St., Lufkin, TX. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Mortuary.
Ernestine Powell Harris, was born on November 28, 1943 in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Melvin J. Powell and Mary E. Powell.
Ernestine attended Brandon, G.W. Carver, Malinda Garrett and Dunbar High School where she graduated with the Class of 1962. She also was a member of the Dunbar High School Tigers Band. After High School, Ernestine attended Franklin Beauty School in Houston, Texas where she received a Beautician License. Upon relocating back to Lufkin, Texas she worked for the Davis Family, and later became self employed at her own business downtown Lufkin in her own Wig Shop.
On June 22, 2019, the Lord called His faithful servant home where there would be no more pain and suffering. Home where everyday will be sunshine, walking, and praising God.
She is preceded in death by: Her parents, Mary Edmond and Melvin Powell; Grandmother, Winnie Goolsby; Her brothers, Wilbert and James McArthur Powell; Son, Curtis James Sparks and a grandson, Brandon Sparks.
