Ernestine Jackson's Obituary
Funeral services for Ernestine Jackson, 74, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Goodwill Baptist Church, 812 E. Lufkin Ave. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches, TX. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Mortuary.
Ernestine Beverly Jackson, was born on August 20, 1949 to the late Ernest Dickson and Gladys Brown, the second eldest of four children.
Ernestine strived in vocal and Instrumental excellence while attending Booker T. Washington High School. She completed and won several accolades for choir and was voted the most beautiful during segregation. Ernestine traveled and won competitions in North Texas, Oklahoma, Hawaii, the Bahamas, California, New Mexico. She was granted the wonderful opportunity to perform with the Renown Symphony Orchestra under the the conductor, André Previn. Throughout her traveling and competitions she would work with Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She was awarded several scholarships upon graduation. She accepted the offer to attend Praire View A.M. University for vocal and piano where she thrived.
In 1968 while both were attending Praire View University, she met and married Ellis Jackson, Jr. January 4, 1969, who was studying microbiology at the time. The later relocated to Nacogdoches, Texas and Chicago, Illinois. To this union four children were born. During her life time Ernestine not only accomplished family life and values, but continued to work in the community. She had been employed by the Lufkin State School, Brookhollow Elementary School, Woodland Heights Hospital and participated in the Foster Grandparents Outreach Program. She also attended Bethel Temple.
On March 9, 2024, Ernestine Beverly Dickson-Jackson made her transition from her Earthly Home to her Heavenly Home.
She is preceded in death by: Parents, Gladys Brown and Ernest Dickson; Brothers, Charles Haynes and Glenn Dickson; Sister, Linda Dickson.
Survivors: Her husband, Ellis Jackson, Jr; Children, Ellis T. Jackson Ill of Lufkin, Texas, Christopher M. Jackson (Dana) of Gladewater, Texas, Angela D. Wright of Lufkin, Texas and Tiffany J. Jackson-Davison (Leonard) of Palestine, Texas. 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; A wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends.
