Freddie Gibson Sr.'s Obituary
Services for Freddie Gibson, 90, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 208 Calvary St., Lufkin, TX. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Mortuary. Mr. Gibson Sr. was born October 4, 1928 in Nancy, TX. and died August 18, 2019 in Lufkin, TX.
Freddie James Gibson Sr. was born to the late Willie and Jessie Gibson on October 2, 1928 in Nancy, Texas. He attended public schools in Jasper, Texas and Leesville, La. He joined the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where his membership remained until his demise. Freddie was employed with Angelina Lumber Company, Lufkin National Bank, and retired from Huntington State Bank in 1996. He was also owner/operator of Gibson's Sanitation in the late 1960s. When you talked to Freddie, you knew that his pride and joy were his children. He was an avid sports fan.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Cheryl Watts, Freddie Jr. (Shela),Connie Mark (Vernon), Rosalind Houston, (Charles), Tameka Gibson (TyVance), Patricia Hartsfield (James), Percy Davis, James (Nick) Davis, and Donnie Davis, all of Lufkin; Michael Watts and Felicia Watts, of Los Angeles, California; 30 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. Very special friends include Julius Mack McCoy, Walter Smith, Michael (Gatorman) Roberts, and Murrell Johnson.
Freddie was preceded in death by Loretta Gibson, Lillie Smith, Laura Cartwright, Annie Joshua, Beulah Calhoun, Charles Neal Gibson, Clara Rigsby, and Sammy Gibson.
