George Horn's Obituary
Funeral services for George Horn, 85, of Lufkin will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024, in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Garden. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. at Colonial.
Mr. George Rueben Horn, Sr., was born on June 8, 1938, in Douglas, Texas, to the parentage of the late Mance Horn and Barzilla Bailey Ellis ("Zella). He accepted Christ at an early age at Stonewall Baptist Church in Douglas, Texas.
George received his formal education from the Douglas School District. On January 12, 1956, he and Gertha Mae Holiday were joined together in Holy Matrimony and remained married for 68 years. George had been employed by Lufkin Redi Mix for 37 years from which he retired in 2020.
On April 29, 2024, George Rueben Horn, Sr. made his transition from this earthly life to eternal life.
He is preceded in death by: His parents, Mance Horn and Barzilla Bailey Ellis "Zella"; Son, Donald Frederick Horn; Brothers, Clarence Taylor, Kenneth Ray Sanford, Sr., Gus Sanford, Donnie Bailey, Doyle Horn; Granddaughter, Karasa Horn; Grandsons, Daniel Frederick Horn, Jr., Terrance Horn; Daughter, Zabrina Mathis.
Left to cherish his Memory: His wife, Gertha Mae Horn; Sons, Jerry Horn (Angela), George Horn, Jr.; Daughter, Beverly McKelvey (Theotis), Ruby Yaro (Jules), Debra Criswell, Annie Horn Barrett; Sister, Mary Ann Durham (Joe); 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 16 great-greatgrandchildren; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
