George E. Jones' Obituary
Services for George E. Jones, 82, of Lufkin is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2023, at St. John's Baptist Church, 502 Old Crockett Rd, Grapeland Rd. Visitation will be 5 p.m. till 7 p.m., Friday. at Colonial Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Golden Gate Cemetery.
George E. Jones was born in Grapeland Texas on February 26, 1941, to Fred Lee Jones and Katie (Lott) Jones. He was one on 12 children. He attended Grapeland School District. George accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Pennington Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
George worked at Vulcraft, and was a farmer for most of his life, which he truly enjoyed. George had many friends who nick-named him "Homie" as he would share his last with anyone in need. George was a great mechanic and gardener, he rejoiced when he could share his mechanical and gardening knowledge. Geoge loved to barbeque and spend time with his family and friends, who enjoyed his infectious laugh.
George was united in married to Wessie B. Jones. This union was blessed with 6 boys and 3 girls.
George passed away on March 14, 2023, in Lufkin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Katie Mae Jones, Wessie Jones, son, Ray L. Jones (Shirley), daughter, Darlene, and granddaughter, London, sisters, Maribeth Anglin, Mattie Jackson, and brother Fred Jones Jr. George leaves to cherish his memory, Sons; Roy L. Jones (Linda) Lufkin, Texas, Ross L. Jones (Tennessee Colony), Richard L Jones (Larhonda) Lufkin, Texas, Russell L. Jones (Mary) Lufkin, Texas, George E. Jones (Ethel) Abu Dhabi, Daughters; Barbra Jones, Lufkin, Joyce Jones (Baytown) Debbie Benton (Ft. Worth Texas), Sisters: Gloria Sheperd, Eloise Hanley (Roy), Grapeland Texas. Margie Nathaniel, Houston, Texas, Karen Malone (Johnny) of Huntsville, Texas, Brothers, Sammy Jones (Delores), Reginald Jones (Carolyn), Terrell Jones (Tracy) of Grapeland, Texas; Uncle Jack Jones, and Aunt Inez Davis, Grapeland, Texas, 17 grandchildren and 24 great- grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends who will cherish his memories.
