Gertie Perkins' Obituary
Services for Gertie Perkins, 88, will be held Saturday, July 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Missionary Baptist Church,410 Scarbrough St., Lufkin, TX. Burial will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan, TX. Visitation is Friday from 6:00 till 8:00 at Colonial Mortuary.
Mrs. Gertie Perkins was born on August 15, 1929 in Corrigan,Texas to the late Novelia Spikes and Luther White.
Gertie attended the Lufkin Independent Schools and was a graduate ofDunbar High School. At an early age she attended the Pine Hill Baptist Church in Corrigan, Texas where herfather was the pastor. Later, she attended Perry Chapel CME Church in Diboll, Texas where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Ladies Mission, served as an usher and was willing to fill any position needed. She later attended the First Missionary Baptist Church until her healthfailed her. Her livelihood also consisted ofher employment at Diboll Elementary and Jr. High School as a custodian and cook. She had been a cook at Kings Café in Corrigan, Texasfor many years. She also was an avid pie maker and sold her pies to the community. She enjoyed cooking, playing dominoes and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and extended family.
On July 22, 2018 a beautiful life came to a close for Gertie Perkins in Lufkin, Texas.
She waspreceded in death by uncles, Earnest White, Billy White, Luther White, andEdward White; Sisters, Luicelle Logan and Mary White; Daughters, Lola Williams, Carol Elaine Randells and Linda Perkins; A son, Clifton Perkins.
Left to cherish her memories: Her children, Shirley Butler, Wanda (Rodofic) Smith, Edna (Johnny) Cratic, Curtis Perkins and Paul Perkins all ofLufkin, Texas, Garfield Perkins and Joe (Shirley) Perkins ofLivingston, Texas, Vivian Mark of Beaumont, Texas and Roy (Rachel) Davis of Hudson, Texas; Thirty nine grandchildren; One hundredseven great-grandchildren andfifteen great-great-grandchildren; Two sisters-in-law, Mae Francis White and Tommy Jean White both ofCorrigan, Texas; Specialfriends, Regina Hullette, Atrial Horn, Pam Bonner and Janice Pain, Mary Wilkerson and Carrie Johnson.
