Gloria Toran's Obituary
Funeral services for Mrs. Gloria Toran are scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Long Chapel CME Church with Reverend Dr. Edward Thomas , Pastor of Long Chapel-CNE Church providing the Eulogist. Interment will follow in the Toran Cemetery in Wallisville, Texas.
Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. for the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Sisters, and from 6•.00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m for the family and friends.
Mrs. Gloria D. Toran, a civic and educational leader, began her life on February 4, 1935. Her parents were the late Mr. Willie H. and Louise Massey. She was born and raised in the Trinity County, Lacy Community. She received her formal education a Bachelor of Science Degree from
Prairie View A & M University and her Master's Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. Mrs. Toran began her career of teaching in Anauhac, Texas and continued her career in Lufkin, where she retired as a guidance counselor for Lufkin ISD. Her passion for education extended to mentoring young minds to pursue higher education and business opportunities, serving as a liaison in her community to bring economic progress to Lufkin. Mrs. Toran was fundamental in the development of building the Lewis-Goran Retirement Community, Ministry In Action Living Center and Peaceful Haven Apartments all located in North Lufkin.
Her leadership expanded beyond Lufkin. For over 30 years, she was a member of the Board of Directors of Compro Tax, Inc. acting as Corporate Secretary as well as the owner of Toran's Compro Tax Preparation Service and Insurance Service where she was known for providing phenomenal service to the community. Her love and dedication to Compro Tax, Inc. was evident through her many years association and faithful service.
Her Civic and community Organizations involvement are as follows; Lufkin Evening Lions Club, Lufkin Community Development, Lufkin, Impact, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Top Ladies of Distinction, Compro Tax, Inc. Chamber of Commerce, Angelina Citizens of Commerce, National Association and the National Education Association.
Mrs. Toran also united with the Ligon Chapel CME Church in Nigton, Texas at an early age. She then met and married the man that infused love and excitement into her life, the late Mr. James T. Toran. They were united in holy matrimony in August of 1960 in Anahuac, Texas. From this beautiful union they were blessed with one daughter, Robbie Toran-Pelham and one granddaughter Daina Pelham"Tootie."

Survivors: Child: Robbie Pelham of Humble, Texas; Granddaughter, Daina Pelham of Humble, Texas; Brothers, Eddie Hall of Houston, Texas and Joe 'Chip" (Nancy) Kelly of Atlanta, Georgia; A wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends; Special friends, Fredd (Marie) Zento of Beaumont, Texas, Edna and Lester Tutt (Corey) of Lufkin, Texas and countless many others.
