Services for Hazel L. Powell, 83, will be held Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 11 a.m., at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 208 Calvary St., Lufkin Tx. Burial will be follow in the Cedar Grove Mortuary. Ms. Hazel L . Powell was born February 12, 1936 in Onalaska, Tx and died August 19,2019 in Lufkin Texas.
Hazel Lee Myers-Powell, was born February 12, 1936 to Reverend Lott and Mattie Myers, Sr. in Onalaska, Texas.
She accepted Christ into her life at an early age and later became a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Powell sang with the Celestial Ensemble. She graduated from Dunbar High School with the Class of 1956. She later attended Beauty College in San Antonio, Texas. Upon returning to Lufkin, she married John Willie Powell in 1957. She worked as a Beauty Operator for seventeen years before being employed at Memorial Medical Center, retiring from there after thirty one years of employment as a Patient Care Technician.
On Monday August 19, 2019, Hazel Myers-Powell departed this life in Lufkin, Texas.
She is preceded in death by: Her parents, Reverend Lott and Mattie Myers, Sr.; Her husband, John Willie Powell; Siblings, L.J. Myers, Willie May Gardner, Lott Myers, Jr., Odessa Myers-Allen, and Mattie Faye MyersRoberts; Her grandson, Jerome Je'Von Moreland (J.J.)

Two sisters, Emma Lois (Reverend Robert) Burns and Evelyn Myers-Preston; A son, Ronnie Joe (Gloria) Powell of Moore, Oklahoma; A daughter, Debora Janice Powell-Cooper of Lufkin, Texas; Grandchildren, Giovanet Moreland, Brandy Powell, Jerrald Moreland, and Geany Moreland; Great-grandchildren, D'Aarion, Jeracion, Treavion, Brianna, Cynthia, Janesia, Jasenia, Andre, Jerrald, Jr. and Julianna; Special niece, Sarah A. (Dan) Wade; A host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Her close friends: Velma Henderson and Melinda Smith.
