Services for Rev. Henry Evans, 65, of Lufkin will be held Saturday February 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Greater Shiloh Baptist Church, 1519 Williams St., Lufkin, TX. Visitation is Friday from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at Sweet Union Baptist Church in Sweet Union. Burial will follow in the Sweet Union Cemetery. Rev. Evans was born March 7, 1952 in Lufkin and died February 16, 2018 in Lufkin.
Rev. Henry W. Evans was born on March 7, 1952 to the union of the late Jim and Zelma Evans in Lufkin, Texas, he was the 6th of 11 born siblings . Rev. Evans attended the Lufkin Independent School District later joined the United States Marine Corp. in 1970, where he received many awards and a Honorable Discharge, returning home in 1992 after serving for twenty two years.
At an early age he was baptized at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Henry W. Evans was the pastor of Sweet Union Baptist Church where he was a solid leader to his members for nine years. Henry was also a solid rock to his family. Henry married Betty Poole in 1998. He helped family members to raise their children as well as his own who loved and respected him. Henry loved 5 things: First of all he loved God 2. He loved his wife and family 3. He loved his siblings 4. His friends and colleagues and last but not least 5. United States Marine Corp. He will be greatly missed by his wife, family, church family and his many dear friends. February 16, 2018 this earthly life came to a close for Rev. Henry W. Evans in Lufkin, Texas.
Survivors: Wife, Betty Evans; Sons, Chris and Jaydon; Two daughters, Tawnya and Lexi; Two grandchildren; Two they raised, Tamika and Kyree; four brothers, Beau (Linda), Charles, Larry (Debra) Donis (tina) Four sisters, Mable Jackson, Alice Williams, Caroline Beard, Gwen Davis (Clifford). A host of cousins, in-laws and friends from around the world.
