James Rhone's Obituary
A funeral service for James Rhone, 90, of Diboll, will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 13, 2021, in the Diboll Civic Center. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 noon till the time of service. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery, Camden Texas.
James Elton Rhone was born on April 23, 1931, to a loving mother and father, Luella Triplett and Morris Rhone, Sr. in Long Leaf, Louisiana. He was the oldest of 12 children. He was a graduate of HG Temple High in Diboll Texas and after graduating, he attended Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.
From a previous marriage, he had 4 children. Belinda Rhone Davis, Vincent Rhone, LeRoy Rhone, and Mary Rhone Mosley (Joe) are all of Dallas, Texas. Later he met and married his beautiful wife Marva Cluff Rhone of 43 years until her passing in 2011 and to this union, they had two daughters, Delonda Rhone, and Marvetta Rhone Anderson (Dante), and a bonus daughter, Judy Coleman Harris (Lonnie)
He had 31 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandsons, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
He leaves to mourn all of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Joanne Rhone, Khalilah Rhone Hasan (Bilal) and Lucille Rhone Montgomery (R.C.), and special sister-n-law Elnor Newton
He worked for Temple Industries as an industrial worker. From there he became the superintendent of the Road Truck Shop where he held this position until he retired after 45 years.
He was also an entrepreneur and started his business “Home Care Fix It Service” and J & M Catering Service.
James also served on several boards in the community and abroad. He was the first black board member of the Diboll Independent School District. He was also President of the Board of Education for DISD for a few years. James was appointed to the Angelia County Advisory Council, the Pineywoods Transportation Club, Temple Library Board, President of Varnett Academy School Board, the Diboll Housing Authority, and on the Deep East Texas MHMR Advisory Council. He also did work for Sabine Investments.
At an early age, James gave his life to Christ and was a devoted Christian until his death. He was a faithful member and Head Deacon at Pine Hill Baptist Church in Corrigan, Texas. He loved his family, church family, and helping others. His passion was cooking, always loved telling jokes and making people laugh. When we would have family gatherings, he would ALWAYS do his famous dance, “The Pocket Shuffle”.
