Graveside service for Jessie Baker, 102, of Lufkin is scheduled at 3 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2022, in the Davis Memorial Garden. Mrs. Baker was born on April 10, 1920, in Chester, TX., and died on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at her residence in Lufkin.
Mrs. Jessie Lee Reed-Baker was born April 10, 1920, in Chester, Texas to the late Tom and Estella Reed. She attended Henry T. Scott School in Chester, Texas where she played basketball and could still yell some of the cheers. The family moved to Lufkin, Texas in 1945 from the Woodville, Texas area settling in the Lufkin Land area, which is still the homestead today. We referred to it as: "On the Hill.
She had been employed as a domestic worker and had been employed at City Bakery for many years, Westwood Nursing Home, and eventually became a Foster Grandparent to kids with special needs. She loved flowers and plants, riding around, drinking Dr. Pepper, chewing tobacco, and watching Westerns on television.
On September 20, 2022, Mrs. Jessie Lee Reed-Baker made her transition at her residence.

Her Children: Daughters, Mildred Davis, Frances Baker McGee (Robert); Sons, Leroy Reed (Regina), Beatrice Reed, James Baker, and Stella Baker; A nephew raised as a son, Lester Ray Price; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by Her parents, Tom and Estella Reed; Two brothers and two sisters.
