Services for Jessie Lee Porter, 83, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the West End Church of God In Christ, 2014 Cairo St., Lufkin, TX. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Friday from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at the church.
Mother Jessie Lee Bogany Porter began life August 21, 1935 born to the parentage of the late James and Tanzy Bogany.
She recieved her education in Livingston, Texas. Mother Jessie Porter accepted the Lord under the leadership of the late Supt. Charlie Jacobs of West End Church of God In Christ. She met the love of her life by the name of Willis Porter. They were united in Holy Matrimony on May 15, 1954. To this union they were blessed with thirteen children. She had been employed for Memorial Medical Center for 19 years. Mother Jessie Porter is the epitome of Proverbs 31 under the leadership of Pastor Willie Spikes Sr. She was appointed Church Mother where she served faithfully until the Lord called her home. Mother Porter was one who loved God and respected leadership. She was an example of a Phenomenal Woman.
Preceding her in death : Her beloved husband Willis Porter; Son, Willie Leon Porter; Daughter, Willie Jean Hartsfield; Sisters, Jimmie Lee Bogany, Bernice Youngblood, Minnie Ola McVGowan, Lou Nell Miles, Katherine Henderson,; Brothers, James Bogany Jr., Hayward Bogany, Joe Bogany and Eddie Bogany.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Ten children, Missionary Mary Graham(Pastor Jerry GrahamSr.) of Lawton, OK., Margie Simmons (Charlie) Jessica Hunt (Lawrence) Richard Porter(Daphne) Melvin Spencer, Terry Owens, Anthony, Kathern Gatlin (Bishop Nelson Gatlin);Pauline Porter, Frances Porter; Son-in-law, Aaron Hartsfield; A brother, Andrew Bogany (Julie) of San Bernardino, California; Two sisters-in-law, Sadie Davis and Rhea Hawkins; 28 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and a wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
