Joe Aaron Alridge's Obituary
Services for Joe Aaron Alridge, 103, of Lufkin will be held Thursday February 19, 2015 in the First Missionary Baptist Church, 410 Scarbrough St., Lufkin, TX. at 12:00 noon.Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Joe Aaron Alridge was born January 14, 1912 to the late Louise Isola Sanders and Bergie Alridge in the Winter Hill Community of Douglas, TX., where he attended school and was baptized at an early age. Mr. Joe moved to Nacogdoches and married the late Willie M. Roberts; no children were born to this union.
Bro. Alridge was employed by Stone's Mill, J.E. Stone Lumber Company and First United Methodist Church in Nacogdoches. He retired from First United Methodist Church after 34 years of service where he had the Conspicuous responsibility of transporting money to and from the bank for the church.
After moving to Lufkin, Bro. Alridge became a member of First Missionary Baptist Church and married Willie Mae Hartsfield. During his 103 years on this earth, he saw many changes, including six generations of his family. In 1979, Bro. Alridge was elected as a member of the Trustees Board that began meeting and discussing plans for the present church building. He was a member of the
Deacon Board and was a rock for the community, providing a foundation for growth for both young and old individuals too numerous to count. Mr. Joe, "Pops", was known for his love for his neighbors, the young people and his community. His wisdom and advice always included God's word. Mr. Joe was honored by The Lufkin Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction during the Humanitarian Luncheon, Patriarchs 2007, Special Tribute to the "Pillars of Strength".
Mr. Joe is survived by daughters, Lou Williams and Natasha Coutee; sons, Marvin (Cindy) Hartsfield, Jimmy (LuVenia) Hartsfield, Aaron (Willie Jean) Hartsfield, Joe Frank Hartsfield and Danny (Janice) Hartsfield; sister, Viola Gilder; 30 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 30 great great grand children, and 6 great-great-great grandchildren for a total of 105 grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
