Joseph David Fields' Obituary
Mr. Joseph-David Fields of Lufkin, Texas will have a Home Going Service on April 14, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Colonial Mortuary, followed by a private family committal ceremony. Mr. Fields will be laid to rest with his ancestors at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lukin, Texas.
Mr. Joseph-David Fields is the youngest born son of The Rev. M. E. Samuell Sam Paul E. V. Fields, Il & Mrs. Annie Charles Fields. Mr. Fields grew up in the home of a peripatetic United Methodist Pastor and lived his formative years in East and Central Texas (Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Groveton, Bryan) and Ardmore, Oklahoma. Mr. Fields' preschool and school-age education began in private Christian schools and later he transitioned to public schools.
Mr. Fields showed a commitment to The LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST at an early age. During his early years, Joseph-David was a very active worker in different churches and supported the work of the Kingdom of GOD in any way he could. While living in Lufkin as a young child, one his favorite things to do was to participate in the activities of the Gloria Russell Children Ministry summer camp, which brought him much joy and many friends.
Mr. Joseph-David Fields was a community advocate and servant, starting in his early youth as a member of Top Teens of America (TTA). While serving in TTA, he supported many initiatives such as March of Dimes, Healthy Choices Conferences, and the Omega Psi Phi Community Talent Search. He became Mr. Top Teen of the Prairie View Chapter, as well as both local and area wide winner of the Ruth Payne Smith Speaker Award. While attending Ardmore High School, he successfully competed in and won the title of Mr. Debonair, by showcasing his care and commitment to community through his actions and public speaking.
He is alumni of Langston University and studied in the fields of Chemistry and Liberal Arts. While at Langston University he developed as a debater and lead the Langston Debate team to a 3rd place win at the Debate Sweepstakes while placing 2nd overall, as a junior. He was affiliated with the UMC Wesley Foundation, The LU Debate Team, LU Philosophy Club, and the LU Ambassadors. The LU Ambassadors
are a select group of students that represent the spirit and values of Langston University, both on and off campus, as well as being student leaders and representatives of official university business.
Mr. Fields choose a career path in the entertainment industry through music and poetry and became known as "Joseph the Poet". His first love was writing poetry; yet he had a strong affinity for writing, rapping and performing country music. He was a self-taught musician, playing multiple percussion instruments and lead guitar. Mr. Fields left Langston and moved to Atlanta, Georgia; and then San Francisco, California where he finally put down roots. While pursuing his career in entertainment, Mr. Fields' abruptly passed due to health issues and heart failure in California.
Mr. Fields was an incredible joy to be around, with quick wit, a sparkling personality, and a touch of spice. He was pleasant, helpful, and very resourceful. He was a dynamic wearer of bowties, intellectual philosopher, and intense chess player. Mr. Fields' birth name 'Joseph-David' means U Beloved Addition" and he was truly an incredible addition to the Fields family. This "Beloved Addition", leaves behind a host of family, loved ones, and friends that will greatly miss his presence and mourn his lost.

Fields; and Christian Methodist Episcopal Church Exalter Minster, The Late Mrs. Luberta Harrison-Fields; Uncles: Mr. Charles Lee Fields, Mr. Herman Ray Charles, Mr. Robbie Norris Mitchel; Adopted Uncle: Mr. Michael Topp; Aunt: Miss. Catherine Jean Charles. Mr. Fields is survived by Father and Mother: The Rev. Michelangelo Emmanuel Samuell-Sam Paul Ezekiel Vernon Ananias Fields, Il and Mrs. Annie Beatrice Charles-Fields; Sister: Mrs. Christa' Dionne Fields-Forbes (Brother-n-Law: Mr. Scott Forbes) of Miami, Oklahoma, Miss. Christian Elizabeth Fields of Miami, Oklahoma, Miss. Catherine Beautiful-Joy Fields of Chicago, Illinois; Brothers: Mr. Joseph-Joshua Fields of Atlanta, Georgia; Dr. Joseph-Michael J. Fields of Boston, Massachusetts; Nieces: Miss. Hannah-Grace Carrington Fields, Miss. Tyler-Grace Fields, and Miss. Christlyn-Grace Fields; Nephew: Mister Camden-Michael Fields; Uncle: Mr. Lonsie V. Charles, Jr; Aunts: The Rev.
