Larry Spikes' Obituary
Service for Larry Spikes, 66, of Lufkin is scheduled for 11 a.m., on Saturday, November 19,2022, in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Gardens. Mr. Spikes was born on May 7, 1956, in Lufkin and died on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, in Lufkin.
Larry was born May 7, 1956, in Lufkin, Texas to the late Mr. Ernest Sr. and Mrs. Thella Spikes. Larry was the eighth of ten children who were closely connected with love and admiration for one another.
Larry attended Lufkin Public schools and later attended Angelina College where he obtained a certificate in welding. He also attended a few semesters at Sam Houston State University where he was initiated into the fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma (Smooth).
Larry worked for several years at the Texas Foundry alongside his father. He worked for 27 1/2 years as a Correctional Officer at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice where he later retired. He was a member of West End COGIC.
Larry departed this life on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at CHI St. Luke. His beautiful smile, calming presence and loving spirit will forever be in our hearts and minds. He will be greatly missed by family and friends but will live in our hearts forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Ernest Sr. and Mrs. Thella Spikes, sister
Betsy Spikes, brother Bennie Ray Spikes; nephews Cory and Ray Ivy, and niece Chelsea Spikes.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Wife Rose Spikes, daughter Phylicia (Darryl) Brown, sons Lamarcus Spikes, Adrian Spikes, and Courtney Spikes; siblings Ernest Spikes Jr., Nanny Jones, Alzada Ivy, Henry (Thelma)Spikes, Samuel (Jennie) Spikes, Willie Sr. (Charolette)Spikes, and Rockey (Beverly)Spikes; five grandchildren Trichell Spikes, Artharrius Stone, Aniya Spikes, Khloe Byrd, and Rylee Brown; in-laws Loydell (Alfred) Thomas, Floyd (Patsy) Gilmore.
