Leroy James Wilson's Obituary
Services for Leroy Wilson, 71, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Christian Church, 1300 S. First St., Lufkin, TX. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Garden. Visitation is Friday from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Mortuary.
Leroy James Wilson, was born on November 27, 1952 to the late M.T. Wilson, Sr. and the late Janese Davis Wilson.
Education: Grade Schooling; He attended Hackney Elementary and preceded from there to Dunbar Junior Senior High School, Lufkin High School and Angelina College, where he received his Associate Degree in Electronics. After graduating from Angelina College, he decided to join the Army to serve his country.
Academic honors and accolades: Leroy's education journey was very successful at Dunbar as a straight "A" student chosen as the President of the Students Council. Graduated from Lufkin High School in the top percentage of his Graduating Class. Athletics: Played outstanding football under Coach Kennedy at Dunbar, and his team won two consecutive District Championships against Diboll High School JV Football Team. He played football for Lufkin High School on the Special Team.
Military Service: Leroy was a Private First Class (E-3), and was stationed in Germany after his successful Boot Camp in California. His MO was a weapon specialist which he skillfully performed his job to serve his Country. He retired from the Military as a 100% Veteran.
Religious Affiliation: Leroy was baptized at an early age and was called to preach, and he preached as a Pastor in his own church named New Beginning's #1, where he served God's people with the truth and understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. During the early ages of his life, he was raised up at and was a member of the Mt. Beulah Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas. (The late Rev. N.C. Simmons). Also, he worshiped with the Goodwill Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas (the late A.D. Thomas and (Asst. Rev. Jimmie Davis his grandfather.) Rev. Leroy loved fellowshiping and supporting different Ministries. He had a special fellowship with Visions of Hope Ministries Lufkin, Texas.(Senior Pastor Patrick G. McGrew and Elect Lady Alyson McGrew, (His sister/brother-in-law). He was currently a member under the leadership of his sister, Pastor Evangelist A.J. Warren, Faith Tabernacle Full Gospel, Lufkin, Texas. Rev, Leroy had a sincere love for all of his family, friends, and people in general. As Leroy has gained his wings, he goes on to meet up again with his father, M.T. Wilson, Sr. and mother, Janese Davis Wilson; His siblings, Lorenzo, Etta, and Dr. Reverend James E. Wilson.
He leaves to cherish his beautiful memories: Daughter, Angelica Wilson; Siblings, M.T. Wilson, Jr. (The late Barbara), Captain Semiria Morris (Lee), Pastor Annie Warren (The late Pastor Edgar), John Wilson (Judy), Wanda Forney (William), Tama Treadwell (Craig), Alyson McGrew (Pastor Patrick) and sister-in-law, Brenda Wilson (The late Dr. Rev. James E. Wilson). He also leaves to cherish his memories, two uncles, Tommy B. Davis (Brenda) and Frankie D. Davis (Marion); Two stepsons, and abundance of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
