Lester Murphy's Obituary
Funeral services for Lester Murphy, 67, of Lufkin, Texas will be held Saturday August 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Mortuary..Lester Ray Murphy, affectionately called "Quink, " was born on May 14, 1958 to the parentage ofthe late Paralee Cockrell and Willie Murphy.
Lester attended the Lufkin Dependent School District, and attended Lufkin High School. He had been employed on several jobs and was a jack of all trades. Lester worked as a mechanic, his carpentry included sheet rocking, also construction work, and he was a Bob Cat Driver. Lester had been employed by Georgia Pacific for almost 30 years from which he retired.
He met and married Lavonne Gardner , with the marriage lasting for 42 years until his demise on July 22, 2025. To this union, five children were born. His livelihood consisted of his love for spending quality time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He watched NFL football games but he loved to watch his grandchildren play football. Lester also loved to play dominoes and listen to music. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Lester was preceded in death by: His parents, Paralee Murphy and Willie Murphy; Stepmother, Ruthie Mae Murphy; Brothers, Larry Cockrell, Mark Murphy, William Fields and Rodney Hicks; A sister, Doris Murphy.

Melvin Hicks; Sisters, Gloria Wallace, Mary Moore, Candi Boltoon, Cindy Gardner, Lorene Matts, Shirley Dixon, Rose McGhee and Phyllis Chatmon; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; A host of cousins, nephews, nieces and all were special to him; A special friend, Gary Hatchet.
