Lorene Dixon's Obituary
Funeral service for Lorene Dixon,74 of Lufkin, will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 A.M.in the,Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 1619 Williams St, Lufkin. Burial will follow in Davis Memorial Gardens.
Missionary Lorene Dixon, was born to the late Sally and John Robbins in Moscow,Texas on December 4, 1950.
She attended Moscow Black School District and Corrigan Camden Independent School District. She graduated from Corrigan Independent School District with the Class of 1969, where she wa All-American in basketball and a cheerleader. Lorene along with many others, were very active in the integration of the Mosow Black School District Schools, by boycotting sports until three blacks and three whites were chosen to participate in the Cheerleading Programs. Lorene was employed by Corrigan Camden Independent School District as a substitute teacher for thirty years. After retiring, she enrolled in Stephen F. Austin University where she obsained her Bacherlor's of Science Degree in Child and Family Development in2016. Lorene returned to education where she was the Director of San Augustine Head Start Program until her illness.
Missionary Dixon dedicated her life to Ministry. She was a Missionary ain the Women's Department at Faith Temple COGIC, unto; her marriage to Elder Jerry G. Dixon. Afterwards, they joined the Church By Jesus Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop Leroy Shankle. She held many positions in the church: Hospitality Committe as District Presient ofWomen 's Mission, Member ofDistrict Missionary & Ministers Wives, and a fiathful choir member unitl her illness. She was a very active member in the church always organizing trips for the Women's Department, and would always give response to visiting churches. Her hard work and didication to the ministry will be missed. Missionary Lorene was united in marriage to Elder Jerry Dixon on October 15, 1988 the union lasting for 36 years until she departed this life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sally and John Robins; Brothers, Kirby, Melvin and Thomas Robins; Sisters, Lena Bogan and Lula Ash and a son, Keith Robins.
Survivors: Husband, Jerry Dixon; Brothers, Edward Earl Robins, Marvin Taylor (Alice,) Raymond Robins, Edward Robins (Sarah), Calvin Bogan (Joyce), Deaoute Bogan; Sisters, Marilyn Johnson (Marvin), Carolyn Freeman (Rickey), Christie Ellis (Kermit),Margaret Gailes; Son, Treacy Robbins; Daughter, Loretta Robbins; Stepson, Anthony Dixon; Stepdaughter, Valencia Beck (Gene). A host of grandof grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
