Louis C. Younger, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many, departed this earthly life to be with the Lord on July 17, 2019. She was born on September 27, 1946 in Westville, Texas to Melvin and Julia Mae Phipps. She was reared in Diboll, Texas in a Christian home and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and personal Savior at an early age. She attended school in Diboll and graduated from H. G. Temple High School in which she was the class valedictorian. She also attended Prairie View A&M University where she met and married the dashing Don Younger. To this union two children were born, Ursula and Jerrick.
Louis moved to Houston in 1972 and started work as an assistant in the office of the world-renowned Dr. Michael DeBakey and his two sisters who were also doctors. After working for the Debakey’s for over 10 years, Louis went on to work for the company of Mercer and McLennan. She worked for them for over 30 years and retired in 2010.
Louis loved her family more than anything. Her home was always the beacon for family visits and events. As much as she loved her family, they loved her even more. The word “no” was not in her vocabulary when it came to helping others in one way or another.
She is preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Julia, husband Don, daughter Ursula, brothers Harold, James Melvin, and Kelvin, and sister Alice Faye. Left to carry on her legacy are her son Jerrick (Chaquella); grandchildren Chadrick (Dedia); Kiersten, Jermaya, and Quinten; great grandson Grayson; sisters Earline and Joyce; brothers Larry (Pat) and Wayne; aunt T. Ethel Womack and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
