Funeral services for Marcellus Jones, 93, of Diboll will be held at 1:00 p.m.., Saturday, February 24, 2024, in the Shiloh Baptist Church,100 Pine, Diboll Tx. Burial will follow in the Diboll Cemetery,
Mr. Marcellus Jones was born November 14, 1930, to the parentage of the late Johnny Jones and Minnie Jones-Goldman of Diboll, Texas.
Marcellus spent his younger days in Fastrill, Texas. He was baptized at an early age, and attended H.G. Temple School in Diboll, Texas. Marcellus married his childhood sweetheart (Vera), the marriage lasting for sixty-six years. To this union six children were born. He served in the Korean War and upon returning home, worked as a car salesman, and later he took up the trade as a Presser for Modern Cleaners. In the early seventies, he built the Family Cleaners named "Diboll Cleaners."
Mr. Jones (The Maestro) as he was affectionately called, was a Music Promoter bringing in big time Artist such as: Bobby Blue Bland, Ernie Johnson, Bobby Rush, Lil Johnny Taylor, Little Milton, Betty Wright, Z.Z. Hill, Joe Simon, The Gap Band and J.J. of the Good Times Televison Show, and many more. He was the manager of the famous "Family Affair Club of Diboll."
In 2013 after the death of his wife, he rededicated his life and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church where he enjoyed studying the Bible. He was very knowledgeable of the bible and was a Deacon and Mason. Our Dad's hobby was working, and in our lifetime, we can only remember him taking one vacation. He loved cleaning clothes, carpet cleaning, tinkering with machines and automobiles. He never met a stranger and could converse for hours. Later in life, his whole conversation was about the "Lord." He never failed to say: "I love you."
Survivors: Daughter, Minnie Jones, Diboll; Three sons, Maurice Jones and Michael Jones, Diboll; Danny (Vicki) Jones, Dallas; Four special grandchildren, Schman Lafaye Whitfield, Prentise Jones, Marcus Cormier and Julian Jackson; Love ones: 16 grand-children; 23 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; Special nieces, Dorothy Jones Teal, Phyllis Williams; One uncle, Harry James of Baltimore, Maryland; A wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; Prayer Partners: Cleveland Mark (Best Friend), Mable Johnson and Willie Deason; Telephone Partners: Glenn Weaver, Barrion Johnson, Stan Garner, Ronald Drummer, Debbie Clay, Ernie Johnson, Vernon Webster and Tom Wiatt.
Preceded in death by: His parents; Wife, Vera Jones; Sons, Johnny Jones and Bobby Jones; Grandson, Dorband Whitmill; Brothers, Willie D. Jones, Roosevelt Jones, and F. E. Goldman.
