Private services for Margie Smallwood, 87, of Lufkin are scheduled for immediate family only. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, August 21, 2020, from 7 P.M. till 9 P.M., at Colonial Mortuary. Mrs. Smallwoood was born December 29,1932, and died Tuesday, August 11, 2020, in Lufkin.Mrs. Margie Ree Dupree-Smallwood affectionately called "Momma Smallwood" was born to the parentage of the late John (Red) Dupree and Mamie Edwards Dupree, December 29, 1932, in San Augustine, Texas.
She was a resident of Lufkin, Texas, and had resided in the Cedar Grove Community since 1962. Margie had been joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Marvin Lee Smallwood. To this union, eight children were born with a daughter preceding her in death. (Aretha Faye Smallwood). Momma Smallwood's livelihood consisted of her being a homemaker and retiring from Lufkin Independent School District in the Environmental Service. She also worked as a Nanny for James Pierre and a few others as well as in private homes from time to time. Her religious affiliation had been with Mt. Pleasant Church under the leadership of Rev. Willie Jernigan later moving it to the Hour of Power under the leadership of Pastor James Coutee.
On August 11, 2020, Margie Ree Dupree-Smallwood, made her transition to her Heavenly Home.
Survivors: Children: Paul Smallwood, Glenn Smallwood, Marilyn (Johnny) Mitchell, Cora Lee Simond, Darline Smallwood (Horace) all of Lufkin and Mamie Smallwood, Houston Texas, and Bonita Smallwood of San Antonio, Texas; Thirty-nine grandchildren; Fifty great-grandchildren, A sister, Oskarine Kegler of Lufkin, Texas; a wealth on nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. A special cousin, Merelle Malone; A brother-in-law, R.C. (Joe) Roberts of Wells, Texas. Sisters-in law, Marjorie Smallwood of Dallas, Texas, and Carolyn Smallwood of Tyler, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, three sisters, and three brothers and her parents.
