Mary Ruth Coutee's Obituary
Funeral services for Mary Ruth Coutee, 85, of San Diego, Ca. will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Warren Temple True Light Church, 405 S. Warren St., Lufkin, TX. Burial will follow in the Chireno Cemetery.
Mary Ruth Coutee was born on May 27, 1938, in Chireno, Texas, to the late Winne and Jimmie Coutee, Sr. She was born with Special Needs, and had a unique way of communicating her feelings, emotions and needs.
Mary accepted Christ at an early age. She enjoyed attending church. When the family moved to San Diego, California in 1955, she would attend Jackson Memorial C.O.G.I.C. but, later joined Faith Chapel under the leadership of Elder Roy Dixon. Her best times in church were in Lufkin, Texas at Warren Temple True Light Holiness Church where her parents were some of the founders and organizers.
Mary's life was simple due to her being special needs disabled since birth. Some of her favorite things were spending time with her two brothers, visiting with her close cousins and friends, traveling to Texas as she called "HOME" where she felt free, independent, loved and very much accepted. At "HOME," she could share memories with her elders who often looked for her to correct them on WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and WHY (because of her excellent memory).
She loved ice cream, malts, cakes, pies, old church hymns like Glory Glory, looking at pictures of loved ones, and her radio playing music from the 50's and 60's. Mary was a happy person and couldn't hold back her laughter and excitement and was often told "YOU TOO LOUD, YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO CALM DOWN:" LOL
Mary was called to Glory on April 14, 2024, and will be truly missed as she was a loving daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and cousin. She was loved by all whom she came in contact with because of her love for EVERYBODY.
She is survived by: Her two loving brothers and their wives, who faithfully provided unconditional love and care: Jimmie Coutee Jr. (JoAnn); Stephen Coutee (Linda); Her niece, Carmen Coutee-Ford who she called "Baby" all of San Diego, California; A host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives to cherish her memory an mourn her passing.
