Mary Pinkney's Obituary
Service for Mary Pinkney, 80 of Lufkin will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2023, Memorial Chapel in Cedar Grove. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Mary Marie Pinkney was born on March 16, 1943, in Mansfield, Louisiana, to the parentage of the late B.D. and Lucy Mae Thomas.
Mary attended the Lufkin Independent School District and was a graduate of the Dunbar High School, Class of 1959 in Lufkin, Texas. She was religiously affiliated with the Memorial Chapel CME Church in the Cedar Grove Community, Lufkin, Texas. She later relocated to Berkeley, California, where she resided and was employed by the State of California from which she retired.
In 1960, Mary was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Lee Homer Pinkney, Sr. and to this union three children were born, Joannie, Lee Jr. and Rodney. She later had a fourth child Cedric who preceded her in death. Her livelihood consisted of gardening and spending quality time with family and friends.
On June 9, 2023, Mary Marie Pinkney transitioned from labor to her rewards.
Survivors: Daughter, Joannie Pinkney of Berkeley, California; Sons, Lee Pinkney, Jr., Berkeley, California and Rodney (Leslie) Pinkney of Pearland, Texas; Grandchildren, Jabori Holmes, Jelani Holmes, John Elison, Jabre Jackson, and Kimari Pinkney-Straiten; 7 great-grandchildren and a wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
Mary is preceded in death by: Husband, Homer Lee Pinkney Sr.; Son, Cedric Pinkney; Parents, B.D. and Lucy Thomas; Sister, Clarise Sumlin; Brothers, James Earl and Curtis Thomas; Nephew, Edgar Thomas.
