Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Garden. Mrs. Lively was born on January 10, 1931, and died on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in Houston.
Maurice Anita Lively born January 10, 1931, passed peacefully at age 93 on July 4 during a brief stay in Houston Texas with her daughter due to a recent illness.
Maurice was the daughter of Joe and Jessie Lee Scranton of Lufkin, her birth father was the late Clifton
McDonald of Crockett Texas There was only one other sibling her brother T.D. Scranton who preceded her in death in August 2007.
Maurice married James Edward Jackson in 1953 and from that union, there were two sons, David and Harold Jackson. Later in life during the 80's she married the late Frank Lively. The Lively's were happily married for more than thirty years. He affectionately called her "Hon" short for Honey and he was known as Uncle Frank and to her kids Pops. Together they worked in a business from their home selling soft drinks, cookies, candies, etc. to many customers young and old. They enjoyed having the business and were very often paid with only lots of pennies from neighborhood kids and for all shoppers there was a buy now pay later plan. If you stopped by at mealtime you were welcome to sit and enjoy a meal, a cup of coffee, or just a chat with them, both were known for their hospitality and generosity.
Maurice was a graduate of Lufkin Dunbar High School class of 1950, she kept in touch frequently with her former classmates and childhood friends. She was employed for many years by The Lufkin Daycare Center. As a young child, she was baptized in the Church of The Living God PGT in Groveton, Texas, and remained faithful to that fellowship until her health declined. She served as a licensed ordained minister in that congregation, was a devoted Bible Scholar and teacher, worked tirelessly with the Mission Department, and served for many years in the role of church secretary. She enjoyed being a choir member, being active, and attending conventions. The love of the church was nestled deep in her heart.
The mother of three children, Janice Scranton Reagan of Houston Texas, David Jackson of Lufkin, and Harold Jackson of Longview Texas. As for her children, she will be remembered for her devotion to their welfare physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Teaching them around the table at mealtime the word of God. Her humor even as she aged was a source of joy to them when together. She always remembered their birthdays and gifts for the holidays on several occasions coloring Easter eggs for them when they each were in their sixties and her eyesight was falling. She would always seek ways to make each one feel special. Like the sweetness of her sweet potato pies at Sunday dinner her particular 'Sweetness' will always be cherished by them. May she Rest In Peace now, her work is done and she has received the reward that was prepared for her.
Maurice leaves to mourn three children Janice, David, and Harold. Harold's family, daughter-in-law Sandra Jackson, grandchildren Nyesha Wahl, Matthew, and Micah Jackson of Longview. David's children Ladarius Robertson of Lufkin, James Flowers of San Antonio, and Gloria Flowers of Baytown Texas. Ms. Lively has one grandson who is deceased as of 2020, Patrick Reagan son of her daughter, Janice. Nephew Darwin Brown of Huntington Texas, Lawrence Martin of San Francisco, CA, and niece Shontavia Roberson of Houston Texas. Her closest family members were like sisters and brothers to her Ms. Betty Jackson, Sadie Pearl Morrison, Oscar Dixon, Jerry Dixon, and her neighborhood cousin Doris Jackson. Other family members listed and their children are the descendants of her late grandparents Lucy and Sam Deason. Cousins Mary Odom Topps, Mary Louise Taylor, Perry Lynn Dixon, and Lucy Mark of Nigton Texas. Loving caregivers Elaine Barnes, Anita Darks ( Bo ) Patricia Johnson Glenn, and Emmili Jackson. A very special thanks for their years of service providing our mother's care and support. To her many friends and best friend Willie Mae Mark, Church Family, and Pastor Earl Whitaker, of the New Life Church of Lufkin, we sincerely say "Thanks to You", for your kindness over the years.
