Melvin Mcfarland Sr.'s Obituary
Minister Melvin McFarland, 83, of Lufkin, will be buried in the Davis Memorial Garden. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel.
Bro. Melvin McFarland, Sr. was born on August 30, 1941, in Jasper, Texas, to the late Carlise and Irene McFarland, Sr.
He married Ivory Gene McFarland on May 21, 1962, and to this union, seven children were born. Melvin attempted to pursue a career in boxing but realized it would take him away from serving the Lord and spreading the word and the love of his family. At seventeen, he started preaching the gospel. He preached in Lufkin, Texas, (O'Quinn), Biloxy, Texas, Kirbyville, Texas, and Livingston, Texas, where he served faithfully for over sixty years. He had been employed by Lufkin Industries for 37 years, from which he retired in 2003. Melvin was a self-learned carpenter, electrician, and plumber. He built his one-story home from the ground up with the help of his brother Curtis. He added a second story to the home around 1978, to accommodate his growing family. Melvin also built approximately everything in it from the fireplace to dressers, beds, and headboards, enjoying it until he was unable to do so. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was a faithful student of the bible.
Melvin is preceded in death by: his loving wife, Ivory; Parents, Carlise and Irene McFarland, Sr; Brothers, Charles, Cuffis, and Thomas and his sisters, Juanita and Jeridine.
