Michael Stevenson "Slick" Jones was born on November 30, 1955, to Marcellous and Vera
(Brown) Jones. He was a lifelong resident of Diboll, Texas, and graduated from Diboll High School. Michael attended St. Thomas Spirit and Truth Ministries in Diboll.
Michael was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was also a man of many talents. He spent many years as a mechanic and doing auto-body repairs. He enjoyed helping others, and you could say that Michael was a regular "Mr. Fix-it.". Whether you needed someone to work on your washer or fix your car, Michael was the man to call. There are probably not many people in Diboll or Angelina County for that matter, who didn't have Michael work on their car at one time or another.
Although he was small in stature, Michael was truly a giant. He had a personality that was bigger than life itself. To know him, was to love him. Michael could often be found sitting under the trees in Diboll playing dominoes with his friends. He had a smile that could light up a room and a laugh that was contagious. For those who knew him well, Michael was commonly known simply as "Slick." Nobody really knew where that nickname came from, but if you were to ask Michael, he would be quick to tell you that it was because he was so smart in school. While Michael loved his family and friends, many people knew that his biggest love in life was the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are America's Team, and if you tried to tell him anything differently, an argument would surely ensure. He was most definitely a die-hard Cowboys fan, and in his presence, you better respect the Star.
Michael was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Marcellous and Vera Jones and his brothers, Johnny and Bobby Roy Jones.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory: His son Julian Jackson, Sr. and daughter-in-law, Amanda of Porter, Texas; His sons, Terrance Hunt of Lufkin, Terrance Moore of Diboll, Steven Smith of Katy and Terrell Finley of Diboll; Daughter, Michelle Finley of Diboll; Grandchildren, Jordan Jackson and Julian Jackson, Jr. of Porter and Jilisa Schneider of Germany; Sister, Minnie Jones of Diboll; Brothers, Maurice Jones of Diboll and Danny Jones of Dallas; Special niece and nephews, Schuman Whitfield, Prentice Jones, Marcus Cormier, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he considered family.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Hospice in the Pines for their exceptional care of Michael during his final weeks.
The family would also like to send a sincere thank you to all of the friends and family both near and far who called, visited, and prayed for Michael and his family throughout his journey. The battle was not lost. Michael has won, and his memory will continue to live on.
