Norma Jean Shields' Obituary
Funeral services for Norma Jean Shields,64, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Garden. The visitation is Friday from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Mortuary. Mrs. Shields was born May 5, 1956, in Houston, TX., and died April 12, 2021, in Lufkin.
On May 5, 1956, a baby girl was born to Oscar W. and Lucille Shields in Houston, Texas. She later relocated to Lufkin, where she grew up and attended the Lufkin Independent School District and graduated from Lufkin High School in 1975.
Norma Shields attended Woods Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Pastor John Woods and the late Supt. Chester Robinson. She received the Annual Family and Friends recognition of the Year Award for her dedication, commitment, and support to the Church.
Norma attended the McKinney Job Corps in 1977, where she received training as a Warehouse and Material Handler. She was a Certified Nurse's Aide and was employed at Southland Healthcare and Parkwood Nursing Facilities.
Norma was a volunteer Foster Grandparent for the Lufkin ISD. She exemplified her love for others, even in the midst of her own sickness, by calling and checking on those who were sick and shut-in.
Norma Shields departed this life on Monday, April 12, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar, Sisters: Betty Jean Shields and Maggie Jewel Sheffield.
Norma Shields will be forever remembered in the hearts of her mother, Lucille Mack; Daughter, Ursula Nicole Hill; Granddaughter: Ariela Lee; Sisters: Willie Mae Hurts (Roger), Wanna Jean Palmer; Brothers: Oscar Marino Shields, Norris Lee Johnson; Uncle: T. J. Johnson; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. (Too many to name.)
