Onia Mae Kiel Majors was bom March 25, 1944, in Woodville, Texas and was called to her Eternal Home on November 29, 2025, in Katy, Texas. She is the daughter of the late Martha Lee Kiel and Grose Kiel of Lufkin, Texas. She attended Dunbar High School before moving to Albuquerque New, Mexico during her union with Sgt. John Elgin Majors of the United States Air Force. Once that relationship was dissolved, Onia returned to Houston, Texas where she eventually began her long-standing career at Quail Valley Country Club. There she was in the company of local legends, Marvin Zindler of Eyewitness News and football great Earl Campbell formerly of the Houston Oilers. They were permanent fixtures and members of the country club and thought very highly of Onia (nicknamed 'Boogie' as everyone called her), as one of the top staff there.
She is mother to seven children, Bridgette, Veronica (deceased), Jacqueline, Christopher (deceased), Angela, Elonda, and Raymond. Through the years she welcomed (12 ) grandchildren, and (19) great grandchildren. Onia enjoyed entertaining family, spending time with family, especially during the holidays, cooking, baking, decorating, and celebrating as she hosted various gatherings spread full of her delicious dishes. She catered many events, socials, weddings, baby showers, and birthday celebrations. She also enjoyed the times she did travel and have different experiences.
Onia loved family and family time together. She attended many of her grandchildren's, great grandchildren's', and other family's children's sporting events, musical programs, and various school events. She showed up and happily showed them her support.
After the loss of her mother, Martha Lee Kiel, in 2018, Onia left Houston, Texas to move back to her hometown of Lufkin, Texas. While taking up residency there, she began working for the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program at Garrett Elementary school and was a classroom favorite amongst her classroom children who lovingly called her "Granny". She also continued in her helpful spirit by working as an eldercare provider in which she enjoyed offering great company, great cooking, preparing meals, and heartfelt assistance to an elder Lufkin resident. Onia Kiel Majors gave selflessly of herself to help others where she could. She lived a full, exciting, fun-filled, and loving life.
