Services for Oscar James Houston, 92, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020, at 11 a.m. at the Woods Memorial Church. Interment will follow at the Davis Memorial Garden. Visitation will be held at the Woods Memorial from 7 p.m. till 9 p.m.
Oscar James Houston was born into this life on February 7, 1927, the first child of 12 children born to the parentage of Samuel Oscar and Jesse Dee Houston of Carmona Texas. He excepted Christ it in early age under the leadership of the late Elder John Woods at Zion Temple COGIC and was a faithful dedicated and devoted Deacon of Woods Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ until his health began to fail him under the leadership of the late Superintendent Chester Robinson.
Deacon Houston served in many capacities, Temple, as well as Woods Memorial, Deacon Houston, open the church doors usually the first one there and the last to leave making sure that church was ready for service and afterward made sure everyone was safely out and the church was securely closed.
Deacon Houston worked in Lufkin at Lufkin Foundry, at the Lufkin Foundry he worked in Diboll at Temple Industries, Deacon Houston also worked at the Hardwood Mill in Lufkin Texas, Deacon Houston, and Matt sister Lucille Terri, at Tyler Memorial Church of God in Christ in Willis Texas. Deacon James Houston was United in Holy Matrimony to the Light Sister Lucille Terri Houston, June 14, 1958, to this Union they were gifted seven sons and two daughters love ones, for seating him and death his youngest son, Steven Cornelius, his wife Lucille Terri Houston, parents his father Samuel of Houston, his mother Jesse Duncan Houston, siblings JD Houston, Georgia Bogany, Bobby Young, Sherman Houston, and Gladys Johnson, our father enter eternal rest Wednesday, February 5, 2020, surrounded by loved ones. He grew weary, but remain strong to God calling him home. They can say James Houston left here a great impact of memories for his family and friends and all who knew him and those of us who are left to cherish his memories include, but certainly not limited to two daughters Vanessa Rose(Roy)Murphy of Lufkin Texas, Elizabeth of Austin Texas and six sons James, David Timothy, Aaron, Richard, Arnold William, Donald, Jeffrey, John, Frederick there were numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Three sisters Clydester Houston of Houston Texas, Lenny Salone of Jackson Mississippi, Fannie Houston of Bryan Texas, Four brothers Willie (Clara )Houston of Lufkin Texas, Don (Mary Lois) of Lufkin Texas, Sam (Elizabeth )Houston of Florida, Clyde(Rhea)Houston of Lufkin Texas, Effie Houston, Eula Houston, Mary Williams of Houston Texas. Where the family is profoundly grateful for each and every expression of love and concern extended to us during this period of bereavement we have been comforted by your visits cards food telephone calls flowers prayers and other doubtful need it is at earnest and sincere prayer that all Gods blessings will be showered on you and unlimited in abundance measures the Houston family.
