Patsy McGee Brown's Obituary
Funeral services for Patsy Brown,75, of Lufkin, will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, January 23, 2021, in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Brown was born on December 2, 1945, in Lufkin, and died on January 12, 2021, in Houston.
Patsy Ann McGee was born in Lufkin, Texas on December 2, 1945, to the late James McGee and Ola Riley McGee. At an early age, she was baptized into the fellowship of God’s family, at First Missionary Baptist Church.
She attended schools in the Lufkin Independent School District and graduated from Dunbar High School. class of 1964, with. Honors. Another cherished accomplishment occurred in 2007. It was in Lufkin that the faculty and staff at Dunbar honored her educational accomplishments by placing her in the Dunbar High School Hall of Fame.
Patsy met the love of her life, Ervin Brown in Lufkin, Texas. They later married while she was earning her bachelor’s degree at Texas Southern University. She was always studious and graduated Cum Laude in June 1969. She later received her Masters of Education Degree from Texas Southern in 1973.
In 1971, Patsy and Ervin’s lives changed when they gave birth to their beautiful daughter, Chandra., As a dutiful and devoted Mother, she was actively involved in Chandra’s life. As an educator, she supported Chandra and her classmates in all activities. Her relentless effort to support all programs at Jack Yates High School earned her the Outstanding Volunteer Award.
Patsy began her very accomplished educational career in 1968 in Aldine ISD. Her philosophy of education was based on her belief: “The influence of a teacher is eternal,” She served children for 35 years in the Houston Independent School District. During this time, she served in several roles ranging from teacher to principal. She was proud to serve at the following schools during her career (Bethune, Scroggins, Eighth Avenue, and MacGregor Elementary Schools). As a devoted educator and outstanding leader Patsy received many awards and accolades including Teacher of the Year; member HASA and Phi Delta Kappa. She held membership in several professional and civic organizations. Patsy loved to mentor others and helped to launch many fruitful careers with her guidance. After 37 years of dedicated service to the children of Houston, Patsy retired in 2006 eagerly anticipating the arrival of her only grandchild, Chloe.
Patsy joined Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in the 1980s and remained a faithful member until her health no longer allowed. It was at WABC that she was a devoted member of the Celestial Choir. Also, she loved singing secular music (Luther Vandross, her favorite artist). Patsy was an avid romance reader and loved to travel with her friends. Patsy loved her dog Sheba who she even taught to sing. Living life to its fullest and total commitment is a charge she kept in her church, family, and job.
Patsy was proceeded in death by her husband, Ervin Brown; her parents, James and Ola McGee; sister Marjorie McGee-Mitchell; brother James McGee.
She leaves many love ones to cherish her memories her Daughter, Chandra Ledet; Son-in-law, Shawn Ledet; and Granddaughter, Chloe Ledet; Brother, Jerry McGee (Dewan); Sister-in-law Marcia E. McGee, Brother-in-law, Gene Brown (Wanda); Sister-in-law, Jessie Faye Brown; and a host of loving nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
