Ray Charles Davis' Obituary
The funeral service for Ray Charles Davis, 67, of Lufkin, will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 2 p.m., at Abundant Life United Methodist Church 1715 Sayers St, Lufkin. The burial will follow at Davis Memorial Garden.
Ray Charles Davis was born on September 13, 1957, in Sabine County, TX to Verdis and Velma Johnson Davis. Ray attended school in Hemphill, TX, and graduated from Hemphill High School in 1976. After graduation, he attended Angelina College. He then went to Dallas where he worked as an apprentice plumber and earned his journeyman's plumbing license. He later returned to Lufkin where he worked at Temple Inland as a log cutter. While working at Temple-Inland, he met Cynthia Thomas, and they were married on September 9, 1995. After his time at Temple-Inland, he became a master plumber and founded his plumbing company "Davis Quality Plumbing". In 2006 he was employed by the City of Lufkin as a waste water operator, he retired from the City of Lufkin after 17 years. Ray loved to fish, cook, spend time with family, and watch ing football. His favorite NFL team is now known as the Las Vegas Raiders. He was most famous for his signature greens. No matter what the family gathering was everyone wanted to know "Is Ray cooking greens!" He entertained his friends on Super Bowl Sunday by hosting dinners in his home, and they looked forward to it every year. He was well known for being a man of few words, kindhearted, selfless, and a gentle spirit.
Ray accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour and worked faithfully at his church, Miracle Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Pastor Patrick Owens.
Ray departed this life on February 20, 2025, and was preceded in death by his parents, Father, Verdis Davis, Mother, Velma Johnson Davis, Grandson, Aaron Kearney, Brothers: Ross Davis, Claudie Davis, Lonnie Davis, Sisters: Dorothy Holloway, Mardestine Galaspie, Verdie Curtis.
Ray leaves to cherish his precious memory: His wife, Cynthia Davis, Children, Kristi (CJ) Barnett, Detrick, and Chris Yarbrough. Brothers, Gary Davis (Connie), Willie Davis, Sister, Wilnet (Cookie) Davis, Grandchildren, Isiah Yarbrough, Davon Bourguillon, Alonna Barnett, Cannon Barnett, and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
