Service for Raymond Nelson, 81, of Lufkin will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, October 29,2022 at the First Missionary Baptist Church, on 410 Scarborough, Lufkin Tx 75904.Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9 a.m., till 11 a.m., at the church. Burial will take place on Monday, October 31,2022 at 1:45 p.m., in the V.A. Raymond moved to Reno Nevada at the age of 10 where he was raised by his grandmother, Luella Grayson (deceased).
He joined the Navy where he stayed for 6 1/2 years and also obtained his GED. While serving his country he was awarded many medals of honor.
He later moved to Lufkin, Texas and joined the First Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of the Lufkin Bowling Alley League and often bowled a perfect score. Raymond loved to have fun and was often the life of any event. He worked in various fields and retired cheerfully from Campbell Soup Company. Raymond united with his sweetheart, Mary Catherine (deceased) in 1979 in Lufkin Texas. He enjoyed traveling to San Francisco and Reno. He also enjoyed dancing and was an avid reader of everything. Raymond was a remarkable history buff.
Raymond was preceded in death by: Parents, Clarence Nelson and Annie Ozian; Wife, Mary Nelson; Son, Kelvin Nelson; Brothers, Charles Nelson, Lawrence Ozian, Riley Ozian and Anthony Ozian.
Left to celebrate a legacy of family values and faith are Cynthia Nelson-Payne (Michael), Michael Nelson (Glenda), Raymond Ray Nelson Jr., Amos Bryan Nelson (Sherry), Pamela Russell (Charles) Carla Nelson (Derrek);Stepchildren: Yaffard Caraway, Corey Buggs (Sherry) and Kametra Buggs and Louis Caraway.
