Ruby Lee Samuel's Obituary
Services for Ruby Lee Samuel, 90, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 p.m. in the New Zion Baptist Church,1202 Cain St., Lufkin, TX. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Mortuary.
Ruby Peyton was born February 10,1928, in Funston, Louisiana the only child to her loving parents, Alfred “Shed” Peyton & Audrey Mae McKeever Peyton.
During her early childhood years in Funston the elder relatives nicknamed her “Sweet” . She attended school in Funston Louisiana and Corrigan, Texas. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Collins Memorial Chapel Church where she was a dedicated member.
“Mutt’ worked as a Domestic Worker, and at Pine Tree Day Care for many years. She was well known for her cooking skills and especially for her cakes, pies and teacakes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ruben” Jelly” Samuel (2015), and her son Willie B Olford, Jr. (2012).
She was affectionally known as “Mutt” by all of her children and all who knew her in the Lufkin community. Her marriage to the late Ruben “Jelly” Samuel was blessed with one child (Audrey Parks) and together they adopted their grandchild (Marlin Badgett) and they raised a blended family.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children:
Shirley (Edward) Ford (Houston, Texas), Patsy (Floyd, Sr.) Gilmore (Lufkin, Texas), Carolyn (David) Wenger (Detroit Michigan), Bobbie (Larry) Singleton (Lufkin, Texas), Charles, Sr (Shelia) Olford (Lufkin, Texas), Marilyn (Leonard) Lee (Cypress, Texas), Audrey (Michael) Parks (Conroe, Texas), Step children: Ruben Samuel, Jr. – (Rockford, Illinois) Glenn Samuel (Spring, Texas), Curtis (Brenda) Samuel (Houston, Texas), Larry (Flo) Samuel (Houston, Texas) and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great children.
