Services for Ruby Scott, 87, of Lufkin will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 1, 2023, in the Colonial Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Nacogdoches, TX.
Ruby Henry Bruton Scott, was born in Nacogdoches County, Texas on August 21, 1936, to the late Charlie & Leta Bruton. Ruby peacefully departed this life on November 26, 2023, in Lufkin, Texas.

, road of life began with the foundations of education at E. J. Campbell High School, and from there, she embarked on a career defined by compassion and dedication. Her nurturing spirit led her to start as a nurse's aide in the baby unit at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, where she touched the lives of countless families with her care and warmth. A trailblazer in her own right, Ruby received the remarkable milestone of becoming the first female supervisor for International Paper. Her leadership, resilience, and commitment to excellence paved the way for others to follow. Even in retirement, Ruby's heart for service continued to shine. She dedicated herself to making a positive impact on the lives of many families in Angelina County as a home health aide. Her kindness and compassion left and indelible mark on those she cared for.
Ruby's spiritual journey began early at Little Zion Baptist Church in Nacogdoches, Texas. After moving to Lufkin, she became an active member of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Later, she found a spiritual home at New Life Church under the leadership of Rev. Earl Whitaker where she remained a faithful member until her passing. Ruby found joy in expressing her devotion through song as a member of the choir, praising the Lord with her beautiful voice. Ruby's personal life was marked by love and companionship. She was first married to J. L. Johnson and together they welcomed two children, Charles and Alevite. Later in life, she found love again with James Scott, until his passing in 1984.
Ruby is reunited in heaven with all those that preceded her in death including 6 brothers: Charlie Bruton Jr., Curtis Bruton, Wilbur Bruton, Leroy Bruton, Harold Bruton and Robert Lee Bruton; her son, Charles Johnson.
Ruby is survived by her daughter, Alevite Johnson; Daughter-in-law, Beverly (Charles) Johnson; Beloved granddaughter, Tiffani (Desmond) McGuire; Her great-grandchildren, Brianna, Sanai, and Kace; Her special niece, Patricia Simon. Her legacy will be forever lived on in the host of nieces, nephews, family members and special friends left to cherish her memory.
