Graveside service for Ruthie Berry,83, of Tenaha, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 15, 2020, in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, in Tenaha, On Friday, August 14, 2020 visitation will be held from 4 p.m., till 7 p.m., at The Bright Morning Star Baptist in Tenaha. Mrs. Ruthie Berry was born on April 12, 1937, in Tenaha (Wood Community) and died on August 5, 2020, in Lufkin Texas.

Ruthie Mae (Bryant) Berry was born in the Woods Post Office Community of Tenaha, TX on April 12, 1937. She departed this life for her heavenly home in the early morning hours of August 5th, 2020.
Ruthie was a devout & unwavering Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart. She could always be heard singing a song of praise & worship. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. At an early age, she joined the Social Point Baptist Church (Tenaha). She later joined the Bright Morning Star Baptist Church (Tenaha), where she wholeheartedly served until God began to prepare her for her heavenly home. She was a member of the Heroines of Jericho, and dutifully served her church as choir president and youth worker. Her voice was as beautiful as one could find this side of heaven.
On June 20, 1955, she united in marriage with Roy Gene Berry of Tenaha. That union was blessed with 9 children (6 boys & 3 girls).
Ruthie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy Gene Berry, with whom she owned & operated one of the most successful black-owned businesses in Shelby County, TX. Also preceding her in death are her parents, Sam & LeAnna Bryant; Sisters: Beulah Bryant, Gracie Bryant, and Mildred Lucas; and granddaughters LaToya DeTaye McClure, Adrian Taleah Berry-Roberts & Tamoya Yvonne Gentry.
Ruthie leaves behind a legacy of love & devotion to God & Family and Christian service.
To follow in that legacy & cherish her beautiful memory, she is survived by her 6 sons: Oscar Larry
(Gale), Elvis, Alfred (Loretta), Anthony (Maxine) & Roy (Rosetta), all of Tenaha, TX. Sherby Constance) of Livingston, TX; 3 daughters: Doris Flakes (Wallace) of Tenaha, Delois Flakes (Curtis)Lufkin, TX and Jackland McDowell (Linsey) of Port Arthur, TX; her brother & closest friend, James Louis Bryant of Tenaha; 29 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
