Services for Shirley Ann Fisher Handy, 83, will be held Saturday January 31, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church by Christ Jesus, 1701 Sayers St., Lufkin, Tx. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Gardens.
Shirley Ann Fisher Handy passed away at the age of 83, on Saturday, January 1 0, 2026 after a long illness. She was surrounded by her son and loving family during the last days of her life. She is preceded in death by her daughters, Sandra Kay Handy, Yolanda Elaine Handy, son, Judge Arnell Handy; Her siblings, Adell Fisher, Jr., Hazel Marie Fisher, Patricia Ann Johnson Fisher, and Willard Clemon Fisher, and parents, Adell and Iwilda Fisher.
Shirley was born on January 22, 1942 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Adell Fisher Sr. and Iwilda Clemons Fisher. She grew up with her six siblings, Alice (Billie). Jo Ann, Adell (Brother), Hazel Willard (Sonny) and Patrica in Nacogdoches. She attended E.J. Campbell Elementary School and graduated from E.J. Campbell High School in 1960.
She married Roy Gene Handy Sr. in 1958, and they later moved to Houston, Texas. From this union came four children. She worked at Texas Instruments (TI) and retired after 30 years of service. She resided in Houston until 2004 and moved to Lufkin, Texas until her death. Over the course of her life, she faced many tests, trials and heartaches, but she lived her life as a strong and independent woman regardless of her health condition. She took on the challenges that life gave her. In her later years, she found life and reconciliation when she opened her heart and rededicated her life to the Lord Jesus Christ, which brought her relief and peace in her final days. We will miss her dearly, but "Earth hath no sorrow, that Heaven cannot heal."
She is survived by her son Roy Gene Handy Jr. (Damica), her sisters, Jo Ann Anders (Lenard) of Lufkin and Alice Jeanette Gross of Las Vegas; 5 grandchildren: Jerrod Arnell Handy, Ashley Jones Handy, DeMarcus Thomas, Joshua Handy, and Xavyon Watts; 10 great-grandchildren: Ja'Brill Arnell Handy, Joreyn Alexus Handy, Xavyon Watts Jr., Xavya Watts, Kristishae Watts, Unique Watts, Bryston Watts, Mashae Watts, Christian Montogomery, and Branston Beasley; Nieces and nephews: Lenard Anders Jr. (Elizabeth), Pamela Anders Cook (Anthony), Carla Anders McQueen (Mark), Staci Gross, Traci Gross, Lance Gross (Rebecca), Regina Sanders (Markeith), Patrice Matthews (Michael), Rodney Johnson; Great-nieces and nephews: Tony Cook, Brittany Cook Collins (Reshod), Andre Cook(Geradine), Sheka Mott Dow (Andre), JaRoyce Anders, Carlus Anders (Harlondra), Rashi Johnson (Stephanie), Xaveon Johnson (Jessica), Shakia Johnson, Nicole Matthews, Danielle Matthews, Mercedes Anders, Kelessi Anders and numerous great-great-nieces, nephews, and cousins.
