Shirley White's Obituary
Ms. Shirley White, 84 of Lufkin is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2023, at First Missionary Baptist Church, 410 Scarborough St, Lufkin. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Garden. Ms. White was born on January 6, 1939, in Camden, and died on Monday, July 10, 2023.
Shirley Ann Randolph White was born on January 6, 1939 in Camden, Texas to the late Julius Randolph Jr. and Joe Anna Steadham Randolph Thomas. She graduated from Lufkin Dunbar High School in 1957. She married Gene Oliver White in 1957 and to this union 5 children were born. Bridget Lanette, Sherry Lynn, Jo Elizabeth, Thomas Eugene (deceased), and Mary Ann.
Shirley graduated from LVN school at Memorial Hospital in Lufkin, Texas and was the first Black Nurse to work for Dr. Anna Beth Connell. Her other employment included Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas for several years and Private Duty Nursing in Oakland, California.
Shirley accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She attended Miraculous Foundation Christian Church in Oakland, California under the leadership of Pastor Pearl and Squire Scott. She moved back to her home town in Lufkin, Tx in 2011 and joined Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her nephew Pastor Derrick White.
Shirley enjoyed family and cooking. She departed this life on July 10, 2023 and was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Stinson Thomas, Joe Anna Thomas, Julius Randolph Jr. and Bettie Randolph, and son Thomas Eugene White, Sister: Aline Hayes, Brothers: Lorenzo Thomas, S.T. Stinson Thomas Jr., and Harold Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory; daughters Bridget (Carl), Sherry, and Jo Elizabeth.
Siblings: Brothers: Doyle (Sandra), Anthony (May Dessa), Darrell, Larry (Yulanda), Julius (Cenetheia). Sisters: Cynthia (Ray), Annie, Mary, and Janis (James), 17 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
