The birth of Tommie George Sowell, was a day of great celebration, but not just for her family. Tommie was born in San Augustine County, Texas on the 4th day of July 1929.
Her mother Carrie Price named Tommie after her father, Thomas "Tommie" George Sowell, who did not live to celebrate her birth. She was the youngest of eight children. Her siblings (Mollie, Gracey, Virginia, Gladys, L. M., J. D., and Wayman) have all preceded her in death. Tommie attended school in Broaddus, Texas, near the St. John's Community where she met and married Loniell Sowell, shortly before he enlisted in the United States Army during World War Il. Upon his return from service in the 1950's, Tommie and her husband settled in Lufkin, Texas, where she created a loving home for her husband and six children. After more than 40 years of marriage, her loving husband Loniell was called to his heavenly home in 1988. On June 14, 2024, Tommie was called to join him.
The memory of her love and faithfulness will be cherished by those she have left behind: Three daughters, Ceola, Debra, and Lillie; Three sons, Kenneth, Leneth, and Vernester; She also leaves the legacy of 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; As well as a host of nieces, and nephews.
"She will be dearly missed and remembered as the Matriarch of and ever growing village of descendants."
" I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous Judge shall give me that day and not only to me, but unto all them that love his appearing.
Il Timothy l: 7-8
