Services for Velma Henderson , 89 of Lufkin will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at West End
Church of Christ, 2014 Cario St., Lufkin, TX. Burial will follow in the Davis Memorial Garden
Velma Lee Henderson, was born to the parentage of the late Caretha and Edmond Jones on February 3, 1935 in Woodville, Texas.
She attended the Woodville Public School System and spent most of her life in Lufkin, Texas, where she met and married the late Lathan White, later marrying the late Mathan Henderson. Missionary Henderson accepted Christ at an early age, and was a faithful member of the West End Church of God In Christ, pastored by Elder Willie Spikes, Sr. at her demise. She loved her Church family and they loved her. Missionary Velma served and was over the cafeteria for many years. She was part of a singing group called the Jacobetts made of of her deceased sisters, Daisy Douglas, Edna Hagens and Thelma Wofford and sometimes her niece Velma Kiel. They sang songs named; Looking for That Man That Don't Know Jesus, Got Heaven On My Mind, and many more. They traveled from place to place singing for the Lord. She was a praying woman of God. In her Testimony she often said "On my way to Heaven, and enjoying the trip."
Her livelihood consisted of her employment at Memorial Hospital from which she retired as a Housekeeper and Nurses Aide. She made hot tamales, raised one son Roosevelt Williams, Jr. whom she said was a gift of God. Missionary Henderson was called to her Home to be with Jesus, March 5, 2024. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Preceded in death by: Parents, Caretha and Edmond Jones; Siblings, Daisy Douglas, Edna Hagens;; Her husband, Mathan Henderson and sister, Martha Kiel.
Survivors: Sons, Roosevelt Williams Jr. of Houston, Texas; Grandsons, Roosevelt Williams Ill, Lufkin, Texas and Stephon Garrett of Houston; Granddaughter, Ykeisha Renee Brown of Richmond Virginia; 9 great-grandchildren and 4 great-greatgrandchildren; Step-children, Dale Cashmir and Shukura Pitre of Houston, Texas; Daughter-in-law, Sandra Williams of Houston, Texas. A wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
